The CPI(ML)’s 12th State Conference in Darbhanga on Saturday turned into a platform for opposition unity, with leaders from INDIA alliance parties calling for mass resistance against what they described as “bulldozer politics,” authoritarianism, and attacks on democratic institutions under the BJP-led NDA government.

CPI(ML) General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya alleged that the ruling establishment had gained complete control over institutions and urged the people of the country to wage a new battle for freedom and reclaim it once again.

The Left leader said the country was passing through a new phase under BJP rule, where instead of “good governance,” there was open talk of “bulldozer politics.”

He urged people to move forward courageously with a resolve to stand for truth against falsehood and to resist repression.

Bhattacharya said the strength of the people could be seen in Iran, where, according to him, people had forced the United States and Israel to “bow down.” In contrast, he claimed that India’s current foreign policy was damaging the country’s global image.

He also alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeals in the name of patriotism were an attempt to shift the burden of the crisis onto the poor, for which the government itself was responsible.

Bhattacharya said the country had a twin responsibility, bringing revolution within India while also defeating imperialist powers and their domestic allies.

He added that the different parties within the INDIA alliance must work together toward this shared goal while preserving their diversity.

RJD state president Mangani Lal Mandal discussed rising poverty, violence against women, and what he described as discriminatory policies of the Centre under the “double-engine government” of the NDA. He alleged that money was distributed during elections, but neither the administration nor election observers took action.

Mandal also said that neither Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) nor the Election Commission could be trusted and called for protests on the streets.

Senior Congress leader Madan Mohan Jha said the INDIA alliance continued its struggle despite alleged electoral manipulation, pressure tactics, and misuse of democratic institutions. Praising CPI(ML)’s role, he said democracy, journalists, and dissenting voices were under increasing threat, and an organised struggle was necessary to free the country from “the chains of slavery” once again.

I.P. Gupta, national president of the Indian Inclusive Party (IIP), attacked the government over bulldozer politics, unemployment, inflation, and action against poor settlements. He alleged that bulldozers were used only against Dalits and the poor.
